Genuine reason for sale
Meridian Business Sales are delighted to offer to the market this brilliant specialist artisan lighting company which has been trading since 2013 as a part time business run by husband and wife. The only reason this excellent business is being offered to the market is due to our clients desires to concentrate on other business interests.
Throughout the years without any advertising or marketing the company has grown rapidly from its origins peaking at a monthly turnover of £30,000. However the turnover has dropped due to work having to be turned away due to our clients commitments, therefore a future purchaser could increase trade and the turnover in a relatively short period of time. The full potential of the business is vast and can be grown in a number of different market places.
The company has an abridged range of their lighting components and lighting flex on their eBay shop and are one of the dominant suppliers. The range is all either British or Italian made and around 40% of the product range is unique to the company and unavailable anywhere. This is due to adding value to products by offering a range of powder coated colours which is done in-house and in a 'just in time' manufacturing process. These products also offer high profit margins.
The companies website sells a combination of Lighting Components; their own hand made range, original vintage and re-purposed lights. Buyers from the website are both retail and commercial clients. Typical commercial clients are interior designers, owners of bars, restaurants and coffee shops, TV production companies, theatres and lighting companies. Their own hand made lights have been specified and used in Pizza Hut, St. Andrews University and a Disney production amongst others. Customers have also been as diverse as car dealerships, offices, hair salons and even Ikea. The website generates most daily enquiries and orders via the telephone and email. Our clients have supplied to over 30 countries worldwide.
The company works regularly with half a dozen or so interior designers who use our clients services to bring their lighting ideas to life. Recent projects have included:
The Kitchens, Spinningfield, Manchester
Lost & Found Birmingham (Marstons Brewery)
Flora Indica Kensington
The company supplies many other lighting companies and electrical wholesalers with lighting flex and their specialist components. The company is approached regularly by competitors who want to buy their unique components but our clients have limited their supplying to only companies that do not conflict with their own business.
Our clients have sold directly at vintage markets such as Kempton Antiques Market, Malvern Flea Market and Badminton Horse Trials. Attending these shows/ markets with their own range of products and vintage lighting has always resulted in good sales and extremely good contacts that have subsequently purchased.
There is scope for a future purchaser to further develop the business as bespoke work can easily be substantially increased with minimal marketing as demand is high for the services of this business. The vast majority of work can be subcontracted to various contacts that our clients have built up. They have an extensive network of contacts for all types of work including laser cutting, fabrication, wood turners and wood workers, polishers, platers, glass bowlers, plastics and metal spinners.
There are many potential revenue streams/ selling platforms such as Amazon, Etsy, Not on the High Street, Facebook and Folksy to name a few but they all offer substantial growth.
The company has a small range of own brand lighting designed and made in house. There has been no marketing of these products other than being shown on their website. With increased marketing and awareness with the potential to increase the range there is huge potential in this area.
The company is regularly approached by shops and up market boutiques that enquire about stocking and reselling our clients product range. To date our clients have politely refused all enquires as this would mean a change in the currently business model, however this area could be capitalised by new owners.
The company has supplied into TV, theatres and production companies supplying Shakespeare Theatre, English National theatre, School of Scandal, BBC, Channel 4 and Independent Production companies. There is massive market potential in this area for both bespoke lighting and vintage lighting. Most companies will purchase outright, however the larger market is rental. The rental prices achievable are similar to outright purchase but it is a preferable option for these companies. There is also the obvious marketing exposure associated with this marketplace by the potential of having products appearing on TV.
Our clients have supplied to lighting designers but have not capitalised on it due to limited time. They have supplied vintage lighting for various projects as required. Vintage lighting is in extremely high demand particularly for bars and restaurant. This trend and is likely to continue unabated and offers very high profit margins. Our clients have contacts within the UK and Europe to easily source vintage lighting.
The company has recently been approached by a well known department store to quote on the restoration of some of the store lighting. Our clients are currently working on a sample light for approval and this will then lead to an order for the restoration of 35 similiar lights. It has already been indicated by the department store that there is a substantial amount of further work that is required around the store.
This is an outstanding opportunity to purchase an established business, which is a great base to build upon and early viewing is highly recommended as this tremendous business is not to be missed.
