The Hotel is set within the village of Pevensey on the B2191 close to the junction of the A27 and A259 which are the two main roads which stretch across the Sussex coastline.
The building is formed from three separate cottages which have now been incorporated to create the main body of the hotel. This is believed to date back to the 17th century and is believed to have been used as a vicarage for the nearby St Nicholas church. The building became established as a hotel in the 1930’s and has remained so ever since. The property is constructed of flint and timber with a pitched and tiled roof with whitewash exterior.
The Priory Court Hotel is situated in the small village of Pevensey just outside Eastbourne. Pevensey is a historic village well known for being the home of Pevensey Castle, which the hotel sits opposite. The Castle was originally built as a roman saxon shore fort, but is perhaps better known as being the base for William the Conqueror before the famous battle of Hastings in 1066. During the late middle ages its defences were again renewed to protect England from the Spanish Armada in 1588 and once again during the second world war.
The hotel is also situated next to the Mint House In Pevensey. This is thought to have been used a Norman Mint as long ago as 1076 A.D.
The area is also very popular with walkers and is situated within 10 metres of the 1066 walk which allows guests to enjoy the magnificent countryside surrounding the historic village.
Eastbourne, which is close by, is famous for Beachy Head and is at the foot of the South Downs Way. Eastbourne also offers many other tourist attractions and Pevensey is situated close to Sovereign Harbour.
We have owned the Priory Court Hotel and Restaurant for over 8 years, however we have decided now is the time to retire to spend more time with their expanding family. The clientele is a mix of regular drinkers, diners, and tourists who come to the area to visit the local attractions.
Full accounting information will be made available to interested parties following a formal inspection of the property.
